They're Bilingual!

The boys can count to five in Spanish now, thanks to Dora the Explorer.
I asked Z, "How many crayons do you have?"
He pointed to each one as he counted and said "Uno...dos...seven, eight, nine!"
Dora is their favorite show, they ask for it everyday.
I took E to the store to buy more underwear for him and decided to let him choose
"You want Batman, Spiderman, or Bob the Builder?"
He looked at them all carefully and declared
"I want dat one"
...pointing to the pretty pink and purple scalloped-edge Dora panties!

These pictures were taken today at their preschool prep class they go to at Imua.
On the bottom left is Elijah, who loves loves LOVES to get on unstable things and try to balance on them, telling me "look mommy, I'm surfing!"
Speaking of surfing, and um...related stuff...another person got bit by a shark in the same area today! That shark was NOT full. dannnng.
Not Just About Clean Underwear
Sage advice from parents to children : "Make sure you have clean underwear on, you never know if you're gonna get into an accident!"
Surely that has made many a kid wonder if their parents were a little batty.
But I finally and wholeheartedly have come to embrace that advice AND THEN SOME.
Since I was barely a teenager, I've been shaving my legs, but so sporadically that you'd be more likely to find me with four-day stubble than freshly and smoothly shaven. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING has ever gotten me to really care enough that my legs were sprouting the beginnings of a forest that I could maintain it, not even the thought that it might not be attractive to my hunk of a hubby.
Until now--well into my third decade of life--the absolute fear of being stripped naked on a trauma gurney looking like I usually do (a mess), has made me realize that I need to always be
somewhat"presentable."
That includes my nether regions too. What was once a task only reserved for bikini days, is now included in my daily regimen.
I'd hate to have the trauma team recoil in horror and have that image seared into their brains forever: the chia pet gone wild.
I've also invested a small fortune in new (read: un-holey, unfrayed) undergarments from AE, God forbid I'd get into an accident with my granny panties on!
Cause believe me, ain't nobody that ends up on the trauma table woke up and got ready for the day knowing that's where they'd end up!
Four Days
Potty training has been impossible with our crazy schedule around here.
So when I found out that I had four days off in a row this week, I decided I would go nowhere and do nothing for FOUR WHOLE DAYS except stay home with two nekkid boys, asking them every half hour "you gotta go potty??"
No matter if he's jumping from one leg to another and SQUEEZING, Z will always shake his head and say "No!"
Then he goes to hide somewhere to pee.
It's driving me crazy. He's resisting.
At this rate, he'll be a forty-year-old who still wears diapers.
Elijah, on the other hand, has taken right to it. So my job with him is to keep reminding him because sometimes he'll just be standing around and accidentally start peeing on my foot. 90% of the time he remembers to go to his potty though. I am quite proud of him. He just needs fine tuning.
How can one twin be potty trained and the other want to stay in diapers? I don't know what to do about that. Rewards? Is it fair?
Well, I'll let you know how this experiment goes in three days
In other news, we're preparing for a spring break vacation to North Carolina to see my folks. I am so excited, I can't wait. All we can do is pray the flight remains open for us (since we fly stand by.)
Potty training and NC reminds me of a funny story....hehehe
Noa was 2 years old and just potty trained when we went to visit Nana and Papa in NC. The drives there are LONG. We are not used to anything more than 45 minutes MAX. So what do you do when you are on a long lonely forever stretch of highway and have to go potty?? There was a lone gas station next to a field of weeds and we pulled over. I took him to the bathroom, which was SO DISGUSTING I did not even want to walk into it, let alone let my boy sit on its vile seat. So I grabbed some toilet paper and walked him into the weeds. He wasn't used to it and it was difficult for him to go, but I kept telling him it was okay, just go on the grass. Well, fast forward to spending a few more days at Nana and Papa's house...Nana went to water her herbs and plants on her porch and found a big "surprise gift" from Noa in her plants!! ROFL. We couldn't get mad because we had just taught him that was the thing to do!
A Part of You Forever
Breaking News on the medical front... (well, breaking news to me, anyhow!)
Do you know how they've always said that a mother and her fetus' circulation are separate? That the blood only gets mixed during the trauma of birth? Well they were WRONG! It turns out that a mother gets big doses of her own baby's cells during pregnancy and they STAY WITH HER FOREVER. Not only do they stay with her, but they've found that those baby cells have come to the aid when there has been damage to say, an organ. Reseachers have found those cells on areas of repair. Is that not the sweetest thing?
I asked about the cell's lifespan, because to my knowledge, cells die, so how can our babies' cells be with us forever? It's because they are in a more primitive state, like a stem cell, and it makes more of the same so it's FOREVER : )
The question is, how is it that our own bodies tolerate these foreign bodies? They don't know.
So the flip side is, there are those with a theory that this process causes us to have more autoimmune problems, which we as a female gender do have more of than men.
Anyhow, I don't know why, but this new discovery that of a part of our children will be with us
forever makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
And then someone in class piped up with "well, if that cell is half my genes and half of the father's.....I have to live with part of my ex-husband forever!!" LOL
Here are some pieces of me!

(sorry for the old pic, digital camera doesn't want to turn on anymore....helllppp ,dad!)
p.s. I realize that I have a lot of medical-type things on my mind so I think I will be making a separate nurse blog and post my work and learning experiences there instead.
