  Countdown to Disneyland
Two days to go--both of which I work--and I sit here typing this instead of packing or doing anything important, such as make transportation plans. (Does anything ever change?)
It's just going to be me, the twins, and a friend. It's purportedly for the twins 4th bday gift, but really it's because the timing was perfect right now what with the shorter non-school-break lines and I happen to have 5 days off in a row. So off we go!
Last night we went to our first 'Aha Mele (since oldest son is a freshman) The main campus on Oahu has a popular annual song contest that is broadcast on television. This is our campus' version, except it is more of a showcase as there is no winner. Doesn't make sense, but oh well. Fabulous talent, these kids. Orchestra and everything! Oldest son can be seen in this photo. Um, you know, if you had binoculars and not-so-fuzzy vision
This morning, we had to make the leis for middle son's May Day celebration. How do you get a beautiful lei from something that looks like THIS?

And the answer is: Blood, Sweat, and Tears.

For one thing, to get to the Hala fruit, you have to get past the razor sharp leaves, all of which are out to cut you into a million pieces. THEN you have to break that solid ten pound sucker into a hundred pieces. Each one of those pieces has to be scalloped individually with a small pocket knife and made into these orange "flowers." It took me (and everyone at my table) over a half hour just to cut ONE. But as we practiced it got faster. Took five of us on my table two hours to make three leis. The greenery is Laua'e.

Oh, and since we are going to be gone this week and the chicks still need round-the-clock care, my friend that ordered them is going to care for them till we get back, so we didn't pick them up yet. Plus, hubby gave away coop #2 to a boy up the street so we still need a home for them.

Okay, NOW to pack. I'm seriously going to try to pack me and the twins clothing all into one carry on. Possible?

This House Could Use a Couple More Chicks..
Our baby chicks are finally going to be here tomorrow! Hubby started to make their coop yesterday. He moved the wood and stuff into the extension to work. The battery died on the drill so he had to manually screw in all the screws, causing a painful blister on his hand and everything...only to find out that all that work was for naught--
The assembled frame is too big to get back outside through the door!! lol!

So as I type this he is outside tearing apart a bunch of pallets to create a different coop. After all the wood and chicken wire he bought he said "Now they have to make $40 worth of eggs for us"
This morning we went to a birthday party today for the cutest little girl
The twins with their "My Little Pony" birthday things
Middle son and friends flying My Little Pony kites
Then I went to work at the boy's school's Ho'olaulea, which is their annual fair. This year we had the Caesar salad booth, SoOOoo much easier than the Shave Ice last year. I have no pics of it because I worked the whole time, but the kids had fun.
I think I have a little OCD or something. Each time I had to replenish the stack of salad containers, I faced the side that opens toward the customer. Even though whoever put the salads together put the dressing container any which way so it didn't look uniform to anyone else, I just HAD to have it face the right way. Even if someone else stacked the salads, I had to shuffle it around until they were all facing the right way. My partner and I were laughing about it, but I really couldn't stop, it NEEDED to be JUST so.
ACK. As if I wasn't weird enough.
Ooh, and this week we had the ground breaking for the expansion of my work place. I can't wait for it to be done already!

  M.I.A.
Looking for missing grandmother... She's tall, with dark hair, laughs a lot, eats fresh fruit all day, used to miss her grandchildren so much she'd call to talk to them. Missing for a couple of months. Doesn't return calls even if messages include invitations to join family trips to Tahoe and now a trip to Disneyland in which she can see her "grandbabies." I'm taking them in less than two weeks, and they'd sure like to see their grandma.
Just yesterday Z was singing "YIPPity Do DAAA, Yipity AAYYY My oh my what a wonderful day!!" just like his grandma taught him. Even though I've told him a zillion times it's ZIPPITY do da with a Z, not a Y. He sang verses that didn't belong and told me it's Grandma's way. lol.
Waiting, waiting..
are you still there, ma?

  Heavenly Hana
This is where we camped this weekend.
With insanely beautiful views greeting us at every turn...

Enjoying such hazards as jumping off the high rocks into shallow water...

Attempting acrobatic tricks that were too difficult...Settling for a run-of-the-mill pyramid...
Playing a fun game of baseball...

Making s'more after s'more...
Having a grand time in the water ...
Watching movies in the tent...
Savoring every last second of this fabulous weekend...
Because tomorrow, it's back to work again.
(Not that I am complaining--I don't think I have a right to complain about ANYTHING--
EVER. After reading The Kiterunner, as recommended by Tee at Spilt Milk, I have a renewed sense of gratefulness for the life and freedom that I have. I highly recommend this book.)
Hope you had a great weekend too!!

  Hoppy Easter
Knowing I had to work on Sat/Sun, we had our egg hunt on Friday. The twins didn't know the difference anyway : )
Thinking I was smarter than the average bear, I thought I'd save money by buying bags of snacks and candy that WEREN'T individually wrapped like the Easter candies were. I stuffed the eggs with sunflower seeds, assorted local snacks like honey balls and iso peanuts, loose skittles and Starburst. Wellllll, as you can imagine, the candies fell out as the twins opened their eggs, so I had them open the eggs over their picnic table, but it all became one big messy pile. Note to self: stop being a miser and cough up the extra $2.00 a bag for a clean Easter next year, you nitwit.
Then I met up with some friends and we went kayaking on the south side. We paddled straight out towards the whales we saw when we got there, but there were no whales while we were out. Though there were lots of turtles. I'm telling you, turtles are very curious and social. Every time I have seen them, whether in a boat, canoe, or kayak, they will swim around and pop up to watch us. They hang around. They are so darn gorgeous. I love me some sea turtles.
Then we had lunch and hung out at a friend's pool. The twins are little turtles themselves, such waterbabies.
Came home to son and friend attaching old slippers to an old bodyboard. With their feet stuck inside, they do tricks on the trampoline. This is Xtreme trampolining. lol. That night they had a bunch of friends sleep over and at midnight I heard a lot of grumbling about who was going to sleep where. Woke up in the morning to half the boys sleeping outside on the trampoline.
Tonight I get this sweet precious little thing while her parents go on a date. Watching her helps satiate my Baby Fever AND it gives her mommy a little break.
Today is a beautiful wonderful day full of promises of rest and relaxation, because last night I came home from work to a CLEAN house and ALL the laundry done by sweet hubby. I have no catching up to do today except in Blogdom. Whoo hoo!

Maui Sunrise...
Have a great week!
