Just checking in
Yes, we're finally back, safe, and very tired. We couldn't get on a couple of flights and ended up sleeping on the floor at the airport but it was just a fun slumber party for the twins. Then work kept me busy the past three days.
Las Vegas was awesome. A shopper's paradise, plus lots of good food mom cooked and we ate at my aunty's restaurant.

A friend came along and she made the trip even more fun. Do you see the emergency room we could work in if we moved there? lol

The twins wanted to swim all day everyday at the pool. They are really confident in the water now though they still need help coming up for air (which really keeps me on my toes)

We also took in the Bodies exhibit at the Tropicana. They have real cadavers dissected in different ways so you can see the whole body. Fascinating.
Updates: The tiny baby chick died shortly after I blogged about it. We held a funeral with flowers and eulogies. lol.
Then a few days ago one of our nephew's dogs got loose and killed Lili. Poor Mele has been wandering around lost. Middle son brought her into the house to sleep with him but had a big mess to clean up in the morning so I said no more. She seems more tame now though, she'll sit in our lap and coo, let us pet her, greets us when we go outside, following where we go. SO cute.

Next up: Beach camping for the weekend! I can't wait. We got word out to everyone at work to at least stop by and hang out for a while with about 15 of us staying the whole weekend. We're going to bring ALL our toys (kayaks, stand-up paddle board, surfboards, fishing poles, etc) That'll be our last hurrah before school starts on Monday.
Going to the beach!

Well, it's off to buy school supplies. Last minute once again. The boys will end up with purple composition books and pink pens. Sorry, kids. Not that they really care, since I begged them to come with me to get their uniforms and they refused in favor of going to the beach, so old uniforms it is this year. WHEN will I get it together??
Birthday Time!

The twins turned 4 today. They got toys galore and we are all going to eat at Ruby's for dinner.
(Doggone camera won't load pics onto the computer anymore. Bummin'. That's why I haven't blogged, it seems like a post without pics is too...plain. So I'll just post a recent unpublished one, I guess)
They're down at the park right now flying their new RC airplanes, one of which tried to chop off one of my fingers, so I'm sitting at home where it's safer for me. I wouldn't be surprised if some of the kids came home with 9 fingers themselves. lol.
Just got a couple of shifts at work then we're off to Vegas for the week. 115 degree weather and all.
One of my goals during the summer break was to make sure the twins could write their names before they got back to school. Z's got all the letters correct, but he just doesn't understand placement. So he'll start with an H and end with an S, he thinks as long as he's got all the letters he needs in there, that's the correct spelling of his name! I can't think of any other ways to explain it to him, he insists it's correct. Whereas E just simply gives up and says "it's too hard." Even though he was first to learn his letters. Add that to the fact that neither of my older sons did any reading or anything educational during the break and I just have to toss up my hands in exasperation and humbly accept that I don't have super kids.
sigh.
But they're super to me, right?!
Travels
Probably the biggest south swell of the summer has arrived. Oldest son had planned a crazy surf trip to Oahu with his friends (hello...FIFTEEN years old and they expected to be able to run around ALONE?!) Luckily for him, hubby and I were up for a weekend trip and we packed the whole family (6 of us...at last count, anyway, lol) plus two friends, luggage, three surfboards, and two bodyboards into one van and one hotel room for three days. We shuttled them to various beaches and I ate at my fave places--defeating my dieting attempt once and for all.
(all photos of oldest son only)

They got good waves and I barely realized that hey, I didn't get a bit of action in this swell for myself, but I couldn't have at home anyway, as a large fire blocked access to my favorite beach.

We drove along to old haunts. I, reminiscing. We relived our age old disagreement of where to surf, as hubby hates crowds in town and would rather surf what I considered substandard waves elsewhere. I wanted the kids to experience good waves; he wanted peace. They got both eventually.
First stop was at a place that is for bodysurfers only. We saw breaks more to the right with surfers out, so we mistakenly thought the bodysurfers only had rights to the break all the way to the left. They paddled out while I videotaped. Then this guy comes and waves the surfers all in, I am thinking, "sharks!"

Only when all the surfers paddled in did I realize something else was going on...I wondered why all the body surfers to the left remained (were the police only saving the surfers from the sharks??lol) They confiscated everyone's surfboards ($100 bail!) and issued citations. Thankfully they had mercy on us ignorant Mauians. The surf trip was saved.
The waves got bigger and bigger. HUGE. Way too big for me anyhow. Nail biting huge. Wish I thought to take pictures, darn it.
One night we went Cosmic Bowling. Even the twins could bowl because they put padded gutters. They all had so much fun. I wish there was more to do like that at home.
Then back to home, utterly exhausted, and off to work the next morning.
Today a friend from work volunteered to watch the kids at the beach tomorrow while I surf, so I CAN have a little leftover piece of this swell after all : )
As for my upcoming week off, we decided for the cruise only to be turned down anyway. They only had rooms with two beds left and needed one adult for each room. Basically, too many kids, not enough adults : (
NC is lovely especially with the lure of horses, but way too far in such a short period, so Las Vegas it is. Mom has materialized and offered her abode. We'll stay just for half the week then fly home and camp at the beach with a few work friends for the rest of the week. It's all coming together now, as the fastest summer in history goes hurtling towards its end much much too soon.
